As those of you who read my last newsletter will know, I finished a book – currently called And So It Begins – that is going to be published by Wildfire (an imprint of Headline) in 2019. Although the writing is complete, as with every novel it still has to go through various stages of editing, and I’m enjoying tweaking and crafting every sentence so it becomes the best I am able to make it. As those of you who are writers will know, getting the story down is only the first stage. It’s already had a structural edit or two, and over the next few months it will be line-edited, copy-edited and proof read. I’ll keep telling you more as it develops. I’m looking forward to revealing what it’s about, but I think it will be a while until I’m allowed to do that!
My Tom Douglas books go through the same editing process, and right now my new book Come A Little Closer – due out in February has nearly finished the editing process. As soon as Christmas is out of the way, it will go to be copy-edited, and that’s where the editor makes sure there are no silly mistakes (such as characters changing name, eye colour, age), and picks up inconsistencies, repetition and a whole host of other important issues. After that, it’s ready to be proof read and then launched!
The next few weeks are going to be full-on, preparing for launch, thinking about how to let my readers know when it is available, and planning an online celebration on launch day (to which you are all invited, of course!).
Christmas always gets in the way as my books usually come out in February, but I’m not complaining. I love Christmas and everything that comes with it, so it’s going to be a month or so of alternating between working flat out, and having fun! Oh – and reading some of the brilliant books that are sitting in my to be read pile. Hope you have some exciting reading lined up for the holiday period.
