Merry Christmas

Season’s Greetings from Rachel Abbott

Merry Christmas everybody and thank you so much for your support throughout the year. You really ARE Gold! I don’t know what you all have in store, but I’ve been busy singing with a local choir, and Alderney really is the most incredibly sociable place – so lots of drinks parties to go to. On Christmas Day, we have friends joining us – sadly not family this year as they are all in the UK – but we’re looking forward to the full Christmas lunch – turkey and all the trimmings. My husband’s family has a tradition of meat and potato pie on Christmas Eve – I have no idea where that came from, but I’m always happy to eat that particular favourite. It’s a simple meal, but leaves lots of time for preparation of the main event on Christmas Day. And then on Boxing Day we have an open

Special Offers on Rachel Abbott’s books

I absolutely love it when one or more of my books goes into a special promotion. Some people think it’s madness to offer books at such a low price, but I think it’s terrific because I hope it will bring me new readers – people who may not normally choose to buy a thriller, for example. I like to think my thrillers are a little different from most. They don’t necessarily focus on all that is gory but hopefully we do get into the minds and souls of both the good guys and the bad. The stories are told generally from the perspective of the victims or perpetrators of the wicked deeds, and although we have the gorgeous Tom Douglas and lovely Becky Robinson around to help solve the ultimate crime, the people we care most about are those who are suffering at the hands of evil. Missing Children – a Charity Auction

I love the research phase of writing my books. It is always a shock to me how easy it is to find out how to kill somebody on the internet – or even how to find somebody to do it for you! Not all of my research is online, of course. There are certain things that need to be understood from experts – in particular any elements of police procedure. I don’t base my writing on the approaches witnessed in television programmes. I go straight to somebody who knows what really happens – a real, experienced, ex-detective chief inspector. And that too surprises me, though I always expect a significant difference between what we see on the television and reality.

Listening to Readers

Earlier this year, I published a novel – Stranger Child – which did very well for me. It’s a novel I’m proud of. In the UK it has just under 1300 Five Star reviews and was the 11th highest selling book on the UK Kindle in the first six months of the year – and that’s across all authors – just being pipped into the top ten by Lee Child (but that’s fair enough!). However, as Stranger Child only came out at the end of February, thereby losing two months’ sales, it would have been interesting to see what the picture might have been with a full six months to go on!

National Crime Reading Month

June is National Crime Reading Month in the UK, and so it’s time for you all to choose your favourite crime writers, and get reading. I’d love to know what you are reading – just add a comment. To celebrate this exciting month, my latest novel – Stranger Child – is going into an Amazon Kindle promotion not just in the UK, but in the US and Australia too. Since launch, Stranger Child has been incredibly successful, remaining in the top twenty for three months after launch, and still in the top 100. With over 800 reviews, it has a star rating of an amazing 4.7. The promotional prices are 99p, $1.99 and $(AUS) 1.49 If you don’t read on the Kindle, you will be pleased to hear that a paperback version of Stranger Child is also available (although sadly not in the promotion). Please do share this with your

Stranger Child by Rachel Abbott: Prologue reveal

My new novel, STRANGER CHILD, is due for release in Kindle format on 24th February – just nine days away. I thought you might like a sneak preview of the prologue. Stranger Child – Prologue   Another ten minutes, and she would be safely home. Caroline Joseph gave a shudder of relief that the long journey would soon be over. She never enjoyed driving at night and always felt slightly out of control. Each pair of approaching headlights seemed to draw her towards them, their white light illuminating the car’s interior as she gripped the steering wheel, struggling to point the car straight ahead.
